Much celebrated for its eclectic mix of boutiques and specialist stores, Clifton Mall is about to add a brand new Scandinavian clothing shop to its list of attractions.
Introduced and run by Bristol born Nicola Baudone, ‘Hus’ is the very first of its kind in the UK and boasts high profile Swedish labels such as Kerber, Rika, Hope and Dagmar. Added to the mix, Nicola was given the honour of stocking prestigious British label Orla Kiely; famously favoured by the Middleton ladies and Alexa Chung. Nicola says of her choices, “I had studied the British fashion market for quite some time whilst I was still living in Stockholm and I noticed a growing awareness of Scandinavian designs. Labels such as ‘Hope’ had been biding their time carefully for the right moment to introduce their clean lines and pared-down style to the UK. When I approached them with my collection ideas for the store, they decided to go with me. It is a very big responsibility but the time is right at the moment.”
On the subject of the store itself, Nicola continued “ I had experienced some huge life- changing events in Sweden during the last year and decided it was time to steam ahead with my dream store. As I have very strong connections with Bristol and it’s a culture-rich, cosmopolitan city it was my natural choice to bring this collection and introduce it to people here to enjoy. Labels such as Dagmar are largely unavailable anywhere else on the UK high street other than London’s Selfridges and Harvey Nicks. It’s exciting that I can bring these ranges to Bristol where people can try them out on their doorstep. Hus is completely unique”.
With a readily optimistic view of the store’s success Nicola says “ I have already held one small opening night and met other local fashion buyers around Clifton Mall. Everyone is extremely positive about the feel of the store. I had wanted to bring something of Sweden back with me to share with everyone here in Bristol. So far it has been received brilliantly and ladies of all ages are excited about the clothing range”.
‘Hus’ is now open at 21, The Mall, Clifton.
